i'd love to plant a biblical garden in my yard. one thing of concern to me is, i live in pa. and would perfer to have plants that are native to the area. do you have suggestions to this dilemma? this is a wonderful idea. in today's morning paper there was a story about these gardens. i've always wondered about this, and never thought to ask or search the web, but it looks to me that you folks got a good idea of what i'm looking for, so you input would be helpful. thanks a bunch. bless your hearts, mary

I like this site and what it stands for. I am a local plant propagator who sells plants in Pleasant Hill. My final sale of this year is being held Sat. Oct. 23. Email me if interested in coming. I harvest 60 types of seed, make compost, have worms, and over 90 types of plants that I sell. I met Shirely last year. She came to one of my sales.

I really appreciate the time and effort you put into this website. I had bought a magazine some years ago that talked about a families bible garden and had since wanted to do one. I found my magazine today and began exploring the web for more info. I came to your website and found so much information that I am going to email my pastor the address. His wife and I are going to hold a church beautification day May 15 and this site is perfect for us. Thank You, Michele

We would like to congratulate your team for the excellent site you keep in the www. As adherents to your vision, we are undertaking a big project which is the construction of the new building for the Theology Faculty of Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile in Santiago, around a new Bible Garden. We would appreciate if you could forward to my e-mail the complete "Common Name- Bible Reference- Quote" file in MS WORD format to facilitate the work of our team. Otherwise, the unsecured and printable document in PDF format would also be of much help. We wish you every success in the development of your noble enterprise and thank you for your valuable help !

I was helping with bible studies at schoool with young children. They were studying Moses and the Burning Bush. Can anyone tell me what type of plant the burning bush was? I thought I had read somewhere that it was a Wormwood. Or is there no reference to an actual bush, that it was indeed a vision of Moses? I think you're website is great, with wonderful information for the children.

Hello, I love gardening so I was thrilled to see the book, "Planting a Biblical Garden" by Nigel F. Hepper in our Christian book store. I didn't have the money to purchase the book at the time but when I returned later and the book and it was gone. They told me they could not order the book for me because it is out of print. Can you tell me where I can get this book. Thank- you, Janet

Hi Shirley...
Recovering OK at Cardiac Rehab classes so I guess the Docs did their job well with heart bypass surgery. Time to get back in touch with Biblical Gardeners. Congratulations on your wonderful, inspiring and worthwhile website. Will send you a copy of my upcoming Flowers of the Bible book due this summer, and Herbs of the Bible...which I'm completing now.
Reason for this quick note...the 700 Club TV Show producers called and will be coming up again this August for a 2-day videotaping. I want to get a plug in for Neot Kedumim. Helen Frenkley wrote recently that they are desprate...no tourists, slashed budget, let 30% of staff go. Hope I can encourage viewers to contribute to that marvelous and very worthwhile 625 acre Biblical Garden Preserve. Helen and Nogah deserve all the help they can get. Also would like to mention your site...when I'm doing my TV features. We'll do some on flowers, herbs, veggies...God's beauty...i.e. wildflowers, plus probably something on recycling making compost and organic methods. Any thoughts you have...since this is basically the CBN with religious theme shows...would be helpful. I too am trying to find various ways to promote Biblical Gardens. (Will go see Rev. Marsh Hudson-Knapp in August for a few days to see his garden, compare notes, etc)
Look forward to hearing from you.

Very nice and thorough web site. I am interested in learning more about why certain plants were mentioned in the Bible for research I am doing about healthy eating. I am cross-referencing different sources about healthy foods and why they are healthy. Could you email me the full reference list for Biblical plants? Or, if they are separate, I am most interested in ones to eat.

Hi, I am amazed by your email. The one goal that I had this year was to have a biblical garden. I have grown a few of the herbs and wildflowers, one of my dreams is to have a open garden one day for others to enjoy as well as a special place where I can go to pray and spend time alone with god. I really enjoyed reading the articles and want to refer my friends to this site if it's ok . I saw some things I had this year I would be pleased to receive anything from you , as well as being thankful I am so excited the one reason I started gardening was I started having mini strokes in DEC. of last year, it has really helped me become closer to GOD as well as help my depression. Let me again thank you for what you are doing for others.

Hi, Shirley....
As a veteran syndicated garden columnist for 25+ years, the author of 50 published books and writer for a variety of magazines, I was given your name and website by a Biblical gardening friend recently.
May I introduce myself by way of my Plants of the Bible and How To Grow Them book...which followed my earlier book, titled Your Biblical Garden book which Doubleday published back in 1981.
I'm a national multimedia writer and now working on another Biblical Plant book. In it I would like to add several paragraphs about your Biblical garden, its founder, curator or tenders today, the flowers and plants you grow and whatever other information you would like to provide. One of my chapters will include Biblical gardens in North America and another chapter those around the world.
It would be a pleasure to hear from you at your early convenience. Your excellent website is an inspiration and I commend your for such a marvelous contribution to Biblical plant gardening and horticultural references too.
When my book comes out this spring, I shall be doing more multimedia writing including columns for one of the syndicates what is interested in such features plus some national magazine stories. Perhaps we might correspond in the months ahead and I might be able to give your fine work some wider publicity in the mass media for whom I write.
Respectfully, Allan A. Swenson
PS For reference, here are my basic writing credentials.
Book and Multimedia Credentials - Allan and Sheila Swenson
Authors of 51 books by Doubleday, Random House, Fawcett, Ballentine, Grosset, Citadel, Birch Lane, Lyons & Burford, Lyons Press and other national book publishers. Also authors of children's books for David McKay, Rodale and Gannett Books.

Broadcasters for Mutual Radio Network, plus syndicated radio programs as writers/personalities on 400 stations. Allan also has been a periodic TV program personality on Good Day, Good Morning, Today, CBC, CBN-TV shows.

Thanks for your site...I share your enthusiasm for gardening and for using the garden as a way to activate and encourage our faith. I am in the process of putting together a web site to reach more people with this great message! For me, gardening has always been a passion- it was only recently that I started to understand that it was MY soil that had been being prepared by the only true Gardener!
You probably have read the book, but I recently read "Like a Garden, A Biblical Spirituality of Growth" by Sara Covin Juengst. It is a great discussion of how the garden stories of the bible create a metaphor that we can apply to our walk in faith. I ordered it on Amazon, so it is still in print.
Thanks again for your site!

Wow!! I was just checking to see if someone had the domain name of an idea I wanted to do... and you guys have already done it!! Congratulations on a wonderfully done web site!!!
I live in Philly, PA and we have a biblical garden at our synagogue. I lived in Israel for 7 years, during which time I studied the flora and fell in love with the landscape. I am interested in exploring the educational value of engaging people of all faiths (and particularly Jews since I am Jewish) in the plants of the bible.
I will let others know about the web site and hope we will contribute soon!!
